The CEO of ISS UK has said he believes global facilities management deals have the potential to spark interest among young people for careers within the sector.
In an interview with FM World Richard Sykes of ISS UK said an increase in global deals will make the sector seem more interesting to young people and provide exciting opportunities for those already working within it.
He told the magazine: “It will make FM a lot more interesting as an industry. We’ve perhaps not been so good at promoting our industry in a positive way in the past, but facilities management has always been about many different things – and what could be more exciting than being part of a team managing a global deal? I think that will attract a lot of people in.”
His comments follow ISS taking on the worldwide FM requirement for Barclays. It is reported that the mobilsation of that alone required the absorption of 5,000 staff from 200 suppliers overnight. ;
Adrian Pendle, managing director of Intersafe, says that it’snot just global deals that can attract young people to the facilities management sector. ;
He said: “At Intersafe we are a fairly small and independent company providing PAT and electrical testing services. Young people who come to us on work experience can’t believe it when they get here and see we’re working for brands such as Motorola, Mulberry and Reebok. It’s fair to say that there’s a lot of excitement for young people within the facilities management sector in the UK alone.”
