PAT Testing in Robotic Manufacturing Cells

Intersafe were recently appointed by the National Composites Centre (NCC) in Bristol to conduct PAT testing on office equipment and equipment within their highly technical laboratory environments.

The laboratories conduct high volume manufacturing using automated preforming cells, each of which is comprised of multiple robots and sensitive high-performance technologies, which cannot be PAT tested with a single standard test. Additionally, some of the areas required specialist equipment and PPE.

Primarily PAT testing had been completed in house, with the challenge of regularly testing in such a complex manufacturing environment requiring additional resource to support the NCC in-house maintenance team.

A number of electrical testing companies provided quotations for the work, and Intersafe were the only company to proactively visit the site gaining an understanding of the exact requirements to provide the most effective testing solution.

Dee Caines, the maintenance technician overseeing the PAT testing commented:

Health and safety is our top priority here at the NCC. Our workshop isfull of state-of-the art equipment, capabilities and technologies, that were unfamiliar to Intersafe’s testing engineer, Andrew. We worked together to understand the test specifications and were able to successfully complete the PAT requirements for all items.
