Oxford Brookes University is an international university with a local focus. It has been rated 'Best New University' in The Times Good University Guide more times than any other UK university, and has a student population of around 18,000 with over 2,500 staff.

The university has an ongoing five year programme and each time testing is due, it asks three different companies for quotes. Intersafe's competitive pricing structure has meant that it has been awarded the tender to test between 50 and 100 buildings across the campus. Oxford Brookes has a large student population and teaches a wide diversity of subjects, meaning it has a variety of different types of building - laboratories, teaching blocks, sports centres, catering departments and lecture theatres, which are spread across over several campuses. Intersafe also carries out Periodic Testing for the maintenance department, the grounds department and the support staff offices.

Steve Holtom Electrical Services Manager said: "I have a very good working relationship with Intersafe. The company is extremely flexible and always works around our needs. Because so many of our buildings have 24/7 occupancy, the times that are available for testing are limited. It's generally out of hours, typically before the start of the working day, between 6am and 9am and often during the major vacations - Easter, Christmas and Summer, in order to guarantee minimum disruption. On top of this, I have to arrange powerdowns for the duration of the inspection for all the buildings which are due to be tested. This can be not only very inconvenient for the occupants but also very sensitive, especially for the laboratories. Prior to testing, I e-mail all students and staff to warn them of the break in the power supply, so I have to have a company I can trust and rely on."

As Steve and his team have to carry out any remedial works that are thrown up by the testing reports, it is very important that these documents are returned as soon as possible to the University and are very accurate to ease the department's workload.

Steve said: "I am continually impressed that the follow up testing reports are returned to us promptly and are always clear and concise. Intersafe has proved itself to be completely reliable and the communication between us is excellent."
